Our Manifesto
We aim to work with bands we admire who are releasing important and interesting albums with other labels. We like outtakes, demos, live material and any sort of material from an artist no matter how outside the conventions of his or her traditional work is. St. Ives is the great artistic liberator.
We press 100-300 LP's, which is a small number for a few reasons: 1) St. Ives hopes to re-instate a sense of uniqueness and originality in each piece, and 2) St. Ives is anti-waste and attempts to keep its runs limited and hopes they go quickly out of print in order to avoid inventory management.
Artwork absolutely must be done on salvaged material (usually on discarded LP jackets). This is both a practical/financial exercise as well as a political/environmental one, as counteraction & compensation for the general waste and surplus of traditional record making was a central impetus for starting St. Ives.
Artwork absolutely must be done by hand and each piece should be unique. If silkscreening is to be employed, there ought to be a component to the artwork that makes each piece a unique piece of art (a drawing, painting, numbering system, etc).
If discarded LP jackets are to be used, no aspect of the original art should be used in the art of the new artwork. This is out of respect of the original artist whose jacket has been purchased/ donated for the use in this project. Artist or someone the artist has deputized will do all the artwork and we give you $100 for supplies.
We give you 15-50 free LP's as your compensation for the project (depending on how many we manufacture). St. Ives now has digital distribution through ADA, which we will put up on Itunes, EMusic, etc. St. Ives accounts to Artists annually, sharing profits 50/50.
